Chicago is a go go

Got a place in the Chicago marathon woo hoo! Also continuing to feel like a brand new runner since cutting dairy, kind of feels like nothing's going to hold me back. Look out Chicago, here I come :)

    1. I have friends doing Philly next year, i was almost tempted but just that bit closer to Houston that Chicago and I want to do it too so wanted a bigger gap (coach loves his recovery sigh!)
I love your approach to running and the results your gutsy attitude are getting you. Heaven help us if you give up on that spin and start 'just' running.......just saying :)

  3. First up, following nice ladies is how I met my wife...

So Chicago here we come, Now you ask about high mileage, well let me put it to you this way: Remember back in November I wrote about training for a marathon, well how did I start? 12-16 week is just to much time to train for a marathon. It's 4-5 weeks:

So remember this; day 1 you train hard, day 2 you train long, day 3 it's hard again, day 4 you are tired, so you have an easy day... Now look at the weeks! If you hit 100 and just stay there and some people try but you will always notice that they break down after a couple of months. We don't want to break down, So i always call it 4 weeks on, 1 week off... (then it would be good to take a month off in the year but I can't do that)
OK so start running those 100 Mile weeks, and if you are training well you will want that 5th week easy, knowing that you will be strong for the next 'block'.
    Hope that makes sence.

    1. ugh you coaches are all the same, rest rest rest. ;) You sound like my coach, I trust him I just want miles but don't want to burn myself out so was trying to gauge how much I should bug him for more, not much according to you! BUT there are runners who put in 100+ miles week in week out, why can't I? It's been 2 years of running, I thrive on miles (thus far) would it hurt to build to this maybe once all my kids are in school in a couple of years (and I have the time!)
I think you are way more active in your lifestyle than I, you cycle etc I just run. I feel sedentary and was only starting to feel fit after 4/5 weeks at 90/100 + miles in the run up to last marathon.

Back to following female runners, yes you met your wife that way, and now you must STOP! :D Looking is ok, I guess.....
I got asked for running tips today (during a threshold run) by an old man with a curly moustache who hugs the front of the treadmill while he runs. He has sore abdominals....emmm maybe try running without holding on? It struck me as ironic, he saw me as someone to ask, and I know NOTHING! I'll give him your blog address :)
